Hello and welcome to Aura The Psychotherapy Centre! I am Jamie-Lynn Sluman BA, RSSW, Founder, CEO, and therapist for AURA.

Who am I? Before anything else, I am a wife and a mom to a beautiful little boy. My husband and I are raising our son on the farm my husband grew up on in Northern Ontario. We love farm life and a life surrounded by nature. Nature and its impact on us as humans inspires me in my personal life but in my professional life as well!

A little bit about my education and experience; I have a Bachelor of Arts degree in Gender Equality and Social Justice from Nipissing University, a diploma in Social Service Work from Canadore College, and have completed in-depth trainings in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy, Emotionally Focused Therapy, and Solution Focused Therapy. Education is so important to me! I pride myself on always seeking new learning opportunities, so I continually grow as a clinician and ensure my clients always receive the highest quality care. I am a registered Social Service Worker with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. I have 10 years of experience working in the mental health sector  with a variety of populations in the North Bay, Ontario community, and have a passion for helping individuals succeed in their emotional health goals.

After 10 years in social services, one trend that I have noticed is a reluctance from people to reach out for support around their emotional health when they need it. There are so many reasons for this, but they all boil down to one truth; people are suffering in silence. That’s where the dream for Aura The Psychotherapy Centre began. My goal is to make accessing psychotherapy easy, comfortable, and safe! Dr. Gabor Mate is one of the many great minds that has guided my practice and one of the things he talks about is that people cannot be with their pain until they sense compassion from another. This is a key guiding principle behind our work at AURA. When you work with our service, our goal is to ensure you feel an AURA of hope, trust, empathy, and compassion so you feel safe to embrace your journey and grow. Some of the great minds that have inspired me and helped shape how I practice are Dr. Gabor Mate, Brene Brown, Dr. Susan Johnson, Aaron Beck, Judith S. Beck, and the list is always growing! I love learning!

I would love a chance to connect with you to see if I am a fit to walk alongside you in your growth journey!

Navigating through life can be challenging, especially when you are faced with additional stressors such as anxiety, depression, grief and trauma. With over 20 years of experience in the field of mental health as a nurse and case manager, I have extensive experience helping people through these difficulties. I take an empathic and compassionate approach with each client and work collaboratively to reach therapeutic goals.

My personal experience with grief and anxiety has given me a deep understanding of the complexities and the need for self-compassion. I use a combination of different therapeutic approaches, not limited to but including solution focused therapy and cognitive behavioral therapy.  Together we can discover new perspectives and tools to help enrich your life and get out of that “stuck feeling” you may be struggling with. I look forward to connecting with you.”
